Recognition for Design that Fits like a Glove

April 19, 2011

One of the package design programs our office developed for Wells Lamont’s line of hi-performance work gloves recently was recognized with a Gold Award for Packaging from the National Retail Hardware Association. The award-winning design extends the structure of a product hang tag into a 3D  form by incorporating a die-cut logo revealing the bright yellow interior of the dimensional hang tag. The rough and tough nature of the work gloves  is further expressed with spot varnish nicks and scratches, industrial design cues and embossing to simulate stamped metal.  While the NRHA has been serving the needs of independent hardware retailers in the United State and Canada and Well Lamont has been providing durable, work proven work gear for over 100 years, we’re just honored to be part of both of these legacies.

The Good of Doing Good

Pro bono. No two words strike both fear and anticipation in the hearts of designers. We, as designers, get involved in these projects for a number of reasons. From my experience, most designers get involved because we are a giving, thoughtful and just darn nice bunch – sometimes to a fault. We also have a hard time saying no. However, I’m sure many of us have also wanted to take an x-acto knife (if we could find one) to these nice, kind and caring pro bono clients. Kinda like smacking down grandma.

Rebrand 2009 + Innervibe

Innervibe Pleasure Packs

Innervibe Pleasure Packs

REBRAND is an expert-led organization focused on brand transformations. Every year, they award the REBRAND 100 Global Awards recognizing excellence in brand repositioning. REBRAND recently recognized our work with Innervibe in re-positioning the brand from a product category has poor perceptions, negative associations, limited availability marketed to narrow demographic.

To address this, we knew that we would have to move beyond just creating better packaging. We knew that the product had to gain presence within mainstream retail and expand beyond the traditional and limited areas that these kinds of products typically exist. Essentially, create the cues, the stories and the occasions for a product which had few, if not, none in order to move them into the shopping carts of a larger demographic.
